Dental Care
Many dental injuries are preventable with basic dental care.
Some dental emergencies are unavoidable, like cracked and chipped teeth. Your first line of defense is to maintain good oral hygiene and to schedule regular preventative care with your dentist. Guardian Direct® individual dental insurance can help you afford to keep your mouth and teeth healthy with multiple plans to fit your needs and budget.
Emergency dental care
Dental emergencies can happen to anyone. Emergency dentistry bills without insurance can be expensive. For example, a root canal can cost over $900*. Dental insurance can help lower your out-of-pocket costs.
Common dental emergencies
Uncontrolled bleeding
Broken teeth
Severe pain
Dry socket
Bacterial infections
Affordable dental care
No matter your budget or coverage needs, there is a dental insurance plan that can work for you. When looking to find affordable dental care for your family you should consider the following common factors:
Premiums
The amount that you pay for the insurance, your premium can be impacted by the following factors:
Age – Premium varies based on age of enrollees.
Location – Your location can impact the cost of premiums, different states and localities have different rules that may impact overall cost.
Individual vs. family plan – Plans that include a spouse or children may be more expensive than an individual plan.
Levels of protection – there are different plans that offer different levels of protection, typically the premiums of plans that give you more coverage are higher than plans that give you less coverage.
Deductibles
A deductible is the amount that you pay out-of-pocket before insurance begins to cover the service. In general, if you select a higher deductible it will help lower your monthly premium. On the other hand, if you choose a lower deductible it will raise your monthly premium.
Copayments
Copays are a fixed amount that you pay for a covered service after you have paid your full deductible. Plans with lower premiums often have higher copays and plans with higher premiums often have lower copays. Most plans have different copays detailed for different services.
Coinsurance
Coinsurance is similar to copays, it is the amount that you pay for a service after you have paid your deductible. Unlike a copay, which is based on a flat fee, coinsurance is based on a percentage.
Annual Maximum
With most dental plans there is a limit to what the insurance company will pay. This is referred to as your annual maximum. If you reach this dollar amount, then you can have to pay for any services moving forward until the year ends.
