At Guardian, our culture of giving starts with our colleagues

We foster a workplace culture that celebrates volunteering and empowers our colleagues to be active and involved. Last year alone, we volunteered more than 10,000 hours and contributed to more than 1,800 charitable causes across the country. We’re committed to advancing our community outreach and philanthropic efforts by volunteering, donating, and working side-by-side with charitable organizations to help our communities thrive.

Community involvement committees

Guardian’s community involvement committees (CICs) are dedicated volunteer teams that lead local philanthropic initiatives on behalf of their local offices. From large-scale events such as Hoopfest in Spokane, Washington, and Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to local community shelter clean-ups, mentoring, and pantry drives, our CICs engage hundreds of colleagues each year to support charitable initiatives and causes related to community, health, and financial wellness.

Guardian’s matching gifts program is designed to encourage and supplement our colleagues’ and field associates’ financial support to non-profit organizations. We match donations to eligible non-profits dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 per colleague per calendar year. In addition, we match donations from our General Agencies, up to $100,000 per year, per agency.

Our volunteer rewards program allows colleagues to earn $10 for every hour they volunteer and report, up to 50 hours/$500 per year, which they can then use to donate to eligible non-profits of their choice.

We believe our intentional activities can spark social, personal, and business change. Via our Missions platform, we share guidance and encourage colleagues to take action related to themes like civic engagement or board service.

Guardian supports the response and recovery phase of disaster relief in communities where our colleagues or consumers are affected, or if the disaster is extraordinary. We partner with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization, to direct funds to these communities via grant dollars, donations from our colleagues, and a 2:1 match.

Strategic community philanthropy

Our strategic philanthropy supports Guardian’s business priorities and is focused on financial wellness and healthy habits. As part of our ongoing commitment to advancing social good, we have created partnerships with organizations that are dedicated to fighting for a better future. Here are a few of our signature initiatives.

  • Adaptive Student Athlete Program for college students - Adaptive Student Athlete Program

Adaptive Student Athlete Program for college students

At Guardian, we want to help people with disabilities to thrive in all facets of their lives, which is why we are partnering with the University of Michigan to launch the Adaptive Student Athlete Program (ASAP), the first-of-its-kind in collegiate athletics. ASAP will support student-athletes with disabilities as they compete in new wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, and adaptive track and field tournaments. Through our funding, we will provide adaptive student-athletes with greater opportunities for top-tier athletic development, performance, and success by increasing awareness, access, and participation in these competitive adaptive sports.

  • Dental Lifeline Network - Dental Lifeline Network patient with his dentist

    Dental Lifeline Network

Through a long-standing partnership with the Dental Lifeline Network (DLN), Guardian expands access to comprehensive dental care to those who lack coverage or otherwise could not afford it. We are proud to be a lead sponsor of the Donated Dental Services program, which has provided more than $70 million in donated services to 38,000 vulnerable individuals, including 4,000 veterans, the elderly, those with disabilities, and those who are medically fragile. Targeted outreach to veterans through their “Will You See One Vet?” initiative ensures access to comprehensive dental treatments for an often-underserved population.

  • Economic empowerment with The American College - Teacher speaking in the Economic empowerment with The American College

Guardian’s commitment to inclusion and diversity is an integral part of how we do business and how we approach corporate social responsibility. In 2021, Guardian committed $1 million to The American College Center for Economic Empowerment and Equality to help advance its mission of promoting upward mobility and wealth building for all underserved communities. Dedicated to social justice and economic equity, Guardian’s scholarship programs help to bolster fiscal stability for early-career financial professionals and students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), and empowers Black women through tailored financial education programs.

  • Financial wellness for high school students - Student in the EVERFI program

Financial wellness for high school students

To help achieve economic empowerment through financial security, Guardian is partnering with EVERFI to launch Minding Your Money: Skills for Life, an innovative, financial well-being curriculum focused on high school students in Title 1 schools across the US. Minding Your Money will push beyond financial literacy to help instil the habits, confidence, and willingness to make sound financial decisions for the present and future, before young people are called upon to work, borrow, or save. Guardian colleagues also will volunteer in classrooms to help students build positive relationships around money through real-world finance and well-being scenarios and discussions.

  • NPower - Female student in the NPower program

    NPower

Committed to racial, gender, and financial equity, Guardian’s partnership with NPower supports Command Shift, a consortium of women and allies that advocates for the training and advancement of young women of color in tech careers. Committed to doubling representation in the tech force by 2030, Command Shift upskills women of color already working in “tech-adjacent” careers, which bridges them to launch new careers in tech.

  • Wellness opportunities for New York City’s High Line - Exercise class on the highline

Wellness opportunities for New York City’s High Line

As the park’s first-ever Lead Wellness Sponsor, Guardian will help to ensure that the High Line, New York City’s elevated park-rail trail, remains an urban oasis where people walk, run, reflect, and connect with nature and each other. Recognizing the social, physical, and mental health benefits of being outdoors, Guardian is committed to safeguarding the park as an inviting public green space by creating wellness experiences, activities, and workshops for community members and visitors that can help them reflect and relieve stress.
