Choosing a dental insurance provider or a dental insurance organization doesn’t have to be difficult. Finding the coverage you need at an affordable price from a reputable provider has never been easier thanks to online tools that make it easy to find a dental insurance organization you can trust that has a dental insurance plan that has the right combination of coverage and affordability for you and your family.
There is no insurance company that covers everything related to dental care. What is a dental insurance organization? Simply put a dental insurance organization is a dental insurance carrier or provider. Guardian Direct® is an agent of one of the most well-known dental insurance carriers and offers dental insurance, vision insurance, accident insurance, disability insurance, life insurance and other types of insurance for consumers.
When choosing a dental insurance policy one of the most important things to look at is what that policy covers and how much you have to pay out of pocket for common dental procedures. The whole point of insurance is to make dental care more affordable so what procedures are covered by insurance makes a difference in whether or not that policy is a good buy.
When you buy a Guardian Direct® insurance policy you can be sure you’re getting a good value because all three of the Guardian Direct® dental insurance plan types cover popular dental services. Subject to annual maximums and applicable limitations, the Guardian Direct entry-tier plan covers dental X-rays and cleanings up to 100%, meaning that you won’t pay anything out of pocket for cleanings or X-rays. The entry-tier dental insurance plan also covers up to 50% of the cost of fillings.
Moving up to the Guardian Direct® mid-tier plan will help you save money on more basic dental work. Cleanings and X-rays are covered up to 80% on this plan. Additionally, subject to annual maximums and applicable limitations, you’ll have to pay 50% of the cost of basic services like fillings. As you get older the chances of needing basic dental work increases because the amount of tooth decay that you have increases. If you’re worried about how to pay for basic dental care the Guardian Direct mid-tier plan might be a good choice for your dental health.
If you want to get the maximum amount of coverage that you can get with Guardian Direct®, then you should buy the Guardian Direct® top-tier plan. This plan gives you the most bang for your buck. It pays 100% of the cost of dental cleanings and X-rays subject to annual maximums and applicable limitations. It pays up to 70% of the cost of fillings and up to 50% of the cost of root canals, crowns, and implants. The Guardian Direct® top-tier plan also pays for up to 50% of the cost of braces for children under 19 up to the lifetime maximum benefit amount and after a 12 month waiting period.
The premium price for Guardian Direct® dental plans depends on how much coverage you want but also on factors like where you live, so only a direct quote can give you an estimate of how much dental insurance near you typically costs.
Calculating the dental insurance cost per month means figuring out the premium for that policy, but it also means taking into account factors like the plan deductible so that you’ll know what you need to pay out of pocket for each visit or service that you receive. If you’re trying to find the most cost effective dental insurance plan having a low monthly premium is important, but so is making sure that the plan you choose has a high maximum benefit. Some providers have payment plans that allow you split up the cost the plan over time to make it easier to afford if your budget is tight.
The cost for dental insurance varies from state to state, so the best way to find out what a particular dental plan would cost is to get a specific estimate for a plan that has the coverage you want as well as the deductible and maximum benefit that you’re comfortable with. You can also use our handy insurance plan finder to customize coverage and find out what your monthly premium cost would be for a Guardian Direct®**¹ dental plan where you live.
There are three important components to the price of an insurance policy: premium, deductible, and maximum benefit.
The premium is the monthly cost of the insurance plan². The premium cost is what people think of when they think about the cost of insurance. But the premiums typically depend on other factors related to the insurance. If you choose a plan that has a high coverage amount your premium cost will typically be higher. If you have your spouse and your kids on the plan with you the premium cost will typically be higher. If you live in a big city as opposed to a small town your premium cost will typically be higher because of the availability of care. If your insurance plan has a low deductible and a high maximum benefit those factors will likely affect your premium cost too.
The deductible is the amount of money that you pay out of pocket once a year before the insurance kicks in³. In most cases just like with medical insurance you will need to meet the cost of the yearly deductible before insurance will kick in and pay for the services that you receive. For example, if you go to the dentist for a root canal and the dentist charges $500 for the root canal and you have a deductible of $50 and you have not already paid that $50 during the current calendar year you need to pay the $50 out of pocket up front. Then the insurance company will pay a percentage of the $450 cost that’s left, and then whatever the insurance company doesn’t pay is what you will need to pay out of pocket.
People who are on a budget may often choose to pay a higher deductible so that they can get a lower monthly premium cost. It’s similar to car insurance. When you choose your car insurance you can choose a deductible amount, the amount that you will need to pay out of pocket if you have an accident. If you choose a low deductible like $500 your monthly premium typically goes up. If you choose a high deductible like $5000 your insurance monthly premium typically goes down.
The maximum benefit is the highest amount of money that the insurance company will pay. The maximum benefit may be yearly or per lifetime depending on the terms of the policy. But once that maximum amount is reached the insurance company won’t pay any more money and you will have to pay out of pocket for all additional care that you receive.
